Color Street Tips You Need to Know!
I’ve mentioned before how much I adore Color Street nails, and now I want to share with you my top tips and tricks for making them last. These are the essential tips that you absolutely need to know in order to maintain healthy nails and ensure that your Color Street manicure stays intact for an extended period of time.
Prep Tips for Long-Lasting Color Street Manicures!
Are you a fan of Color Street nails but struggling to make them last? Don’t worry, there are several steps you can take to ensure your manicure stays beautiful for longer and continues to receive compliments even after the first day. To help you achieve this, here are some helpful Color Street tips that will guide you in preparing your nails and keeping your manicure looking fresh for days.
Make sure your Color Street nail strips and hands are the right temperature.
It’s important to ensure that both your Color Street nail strips and your hands are at the correct temperature. This will help ensure a smooth and seamless application of the nail strips and prevent any issues that may arise due to temperature differences.
If your nail strips are too cold or hot, they won’t adhere as well. Too cold and they will be brittle. Too warm and the adhesive will be sticky. Make sure they are room temperature. Also, make sure your hands are not cold. You need the warmth of your hands to warm the adhesive on contact (but not before). Make sure you do not store your strips in a bathroom or a place that has humidity.
Clean and Dry Nails
After shaping and filing your nails, it’s common to have some “dust” residue left on your nails. This residue can create a barrier between your natural nail and the nail strip. To avoid this, it’s best to do any shaping, filing, and buffing before using the alcohol wipes provided. Personally, I find that using a high-quality nail file or glass nail file for shaping and a nail block for buffing gives me a solid foundation for applying my Color Street nail strips, reducing the chances of them breaking while I wear them.
Cuticle Care
Before applying Color Street nail strips, it’s important to push back and trim your cuticles. The adhesive on the nail strips is specifically designed to stick to your nails and not to any other surface. When the strip comes into contact with your skin or cuticle, it creates a vulnerable area where it can easily lift off the nail. To avoid this, I highly recommend using a reliable cuticle pusher as a handy tool.
Wash your hands with dish soap.
I know it might sound a bit unusual, but using dish soap is actually the best option for washing your hands before applying Color Street nail polish strips. Regular hand soaps typically contain oils or butters that are meant to keep your skin soft. However, these oils can interfere with the adherence of the nail strips. On the other hand, dish soap often contains a degreaser that helps break down any oils on your nails and hands. Personally, I find Dawn to be my favorite as it effectively removes grease without being harsh on the skin.
Use the provided alcohol wipes.
When you receive your Color Street nail strips, you’ll find alcohol wipes included. It’s important to use these wipes right before applying the strips. However, make sure to give the alcohol enough time to fully dry before moving forward with the application process.
Color Street Tips for Application
Even after you’ve prepared your nails, there are additional steps you can take to ensure a smooth application process. Here are some helpful tips from Color Street for achieving great results.
Don’t open your Color Street strips until you are ready to apply them.
Before you break the air-tight seal on your nail strips, make sure you have enough time to complete your manicure. Exposing the nail strips to air before application can cause them to become brittle and dry.
Make sure you have enough cure time.
In addition to allowing sufficient time for applying your nails, it is important to allocate enough time for them to properly cure after application. One approach is to apply them before bedtime. However, if this timeframe doesn’t suit you, ensure that you avoid lotions, oils, and hot water for a few hours after applying the strips.
Give your strips a little stretch.
Before removing the excess, remember to gently stretch your nails downward. Doing so will help prevent the risk of accidentally pulling or filing off too much.
Start with Your Pinky
You will use your thumbs at your “tool” to apply your nail strips. It’s recommended to start with your pink and work you way to you thumb to get the best results.
File Downward.
After removing the excess strip, if you need to smooth out any rough edges, always remember to file in a downward motion. Avoid filing upwards or from side to side as this can cause the nail file to catch on the adhesive and lift the strip off the nail.
Color Street Tips for Easiest Removal
To ensure the healthiest and easiest removal of nail strips, it is important to follow these Color Street tips. By doing so, you can prevent any potential damage to your nails.
Use an acetone free nail polish remover.
Color Street nail strips are designed to stay in place, which means they may require more remover to remove them. However, using nail polish remover with acetone can be quite drying for your nails. To avoid this, I suggest using an acetone-free option. Color Street’s Nail Polish Remover (Acetone Free) would be my top recommendation
Nail clips are awesome.
Nail clips are a great tool to protect your fingertips and conserve your nail polish remover. They securely hold the remover in place directly on the nail, eliminating the need to soak your nails in a bowl of remover or spend time individually applying remover to each nail. This saves you both time and product.
Lint Free Cotton Pads work great with nail clips.
Lint-free cotton pads are highly effective when paired with nail clips. The lint-free material ensures that no fibers or particles are left behind on your nails, resulting in a cleaner and smoother application of products such as nail polish remover. When used with nail clips, these pads securely hold the remover in place, allowing for easy and efficient removal without any mess or wastage. So, combining lint-free cotton pads with nail clips offers a superior nail care experience.
NEVER peel off your nail strips!
It is generally not recommended to peel off Color Street nail strips. When you peel off the nail strips, you may risk damaging your natural nails. Color Street nail strips are designed to adhere to your nails firmly for a long-lasting and professional finish. Peeling them off forcefully can cause the top layer of your nails to peel off as well, leading to thinning or weakening of the nails. It is best to follow the proper removal process recommended by Color Street, which typically involves using nail polish remover. This will help preserve the health and strength of your natural nails.
Color Street Tips, General Tips,Tricks, and Information.
Since I started using Color Street nail strips, I’ve discovered a wealth of helpful tips and tricks. In addition to what we’ve already discussed, here’s a collection of miscellaneous Color Street tips that I’ve learned along the way.
You can use a base or top coat.
You have the option to use a base or top coat with Color Street nail polish strips since they are made of real nail polish. If your nails are thin or sensitive, applying a base coat is a smart choice. I personally suggest trying out Color Street’s Nail Strengthener.
However, ensure that you allow sufficient drying time for the base coat before applying the Color Street strips. It’s important to note that having a base coat can make it more challenging to readjust the nail during application.
To make your nails last longer, using a top coat is beneficial. You can either use a regular bottled top coat or apply another clear nail strip on top of your designer one. I highly recommend Color Street’s Nail Strengthener.
Do not keep your nail strips in a hot place.
If your Color Street nail strips get too warm, the adhesive can become tacky or gummy, which will reduce their effectiveness in staying in place. Therefore, it’s important to avoid leaving your nail strips in a hot car to prevent this from happening.
Glitter nails are great for toes.
Glittery nails have an impressive staying power, making them perfect for your toes. I’ve personally experienced a Color Street pedicure with glitter lasting for more than a month on my own toes.
Non glitter nails take special care during application.
Nails without glitter tend to be slightly thinner since they don’t have that additional layer. While they are still fantastic, it’s important to remember that they require a bit more care during application due to their slightly more delicate nature.
Saving some strips is not impossible.
For optimal results, it is recommended to use a new set of Color Street nail strips. However, it is possible to save any extras to incorporate them into another set in the future. If you choose to save leftovers, ensure they are stored in an airtight environment.
To preserve the strips, I personally use a portable sealer to reseal the plastic packaging. Although it is possible to keep them for a short period, it is advisable to use them relatively soon. While I have successfully used strips that were saved for a few weeks, their quality may be compromised after a few months.
Get a manicure and pedicure out of one set.
In a single package, you’ll find a sufficient number of nail strips to complete both a manicure and a pedicure. Remember to reserve the largest strip for your big toe, while utilizing the smaller ones to finish the remaining toes.
